Jessica Levant is a native San Franciscan who has lived in London and New York for more than thirty years. Jessica was always interested in art, but she didn’t consider herself a serious artist until she returned to San Francisco in the late 90s when she re-designed her life and her career. She is mainly self-taught, though, over the years, she has taken various classes in photography and painting. Her tagline is “Unexpected views of the ordinary - Ordinary views of the unexpected.” Meaning that she loves finding new ways to see what's around her. That often involves using filters to digitally manipulate the photographs she takes. She sometimes changes colors; changes backgrounds; or simply builds composites of several images. She is drawn to juxtapositions, shapes, and visual irony, mostly in urban settings. Jessica is also an avid jazz lover, she recently put her camera to the music scene and published two photo books called Bluesicians (Volume 1 and 2) and San Francisco Bay Area Jazz - which together have 251 portraits taken during performances of local musicians, each accompanied by a biography.
Jessica has exhibited at Flight, San Francisco Women Artists, USA, San Francisco, Joy, San Francisco Women Artists, USA, San Francisco, etc. She has won many awards both online and in in-gallery photography contests. She has also had her work accepted into dozens of juried shows. Her work is on long-term on display at a local marina. Jessica has had 5 successful solo shows in the past five years, and has participated in many group shows.
