Tracy Walker Wall Art

Tracy Walker was born in Auckland where she lives to date. Her works have a long-standing narrative associated with her preoccupation with land division in New Zealand and the whole world. Her concern for the land has continued to fuel her practice as she seeks to raise awareness of the political challenges and issues that surround land occupation in New Zealand. The viewers of her work are encouraged to evaluate their own decisions regarding the landscape, balancing the necessity of collective and individual land use with the need to preserve their environment. Tracy produces effulgent painting as a result of the multiple fine layers of oils and acrylics she applies over metal substrates. Tracy overlays image on top of image that references the suspicion and uncertainty surrounding the decisions of the government that can be manipulated to the point of confusion for most people.

In her art harsh realities, technology and humankind are moving into the fore; where she confronts the viewer with the ongoing interchange of technology and land; urbanscape and landscape; all mirroring the overly-complicated content of the legislation in New Zealand. Her arts hold subtle points of entry into the discussion of the ever-expanding technology, urbanscape, and land division. She deals with these important topics through her powerful representations of ethereal landscapes, and dramatic aesthetic qualities, creating work that is strong yet subtle; mirroring her approach to the politics of landscape. Tracy allows her work to adapt, and sculpturally morph into different environments, inviting the viewer to ponder the work either to be read as a coherent whole, or as a series of component pieces.
