Dominique Samyn Wall Art

Dominique Samyn was born in Flanders, Belgium. She moved to the Washington DC area in 1989 and joined the Corcoran College of Fine Arts and studied painting. She lived and worked in Lima, Peru from 1998 to 2001. During that time, after a trip to the famous islands in Ecuador, she painted the
“Galapagos Series.” In 2002, Dominique opened a studio in Alexandria, Virginia in the Torpedo Factory Art Center. There she
worked on called “Noah Series” - the abstract paintings inspired by her grandson Noah who was a toddler then. Since 2006, the artist has been working in her studio in New Mexico on her new contemporary paintings
called "Adobe Series", "Sunshine Express Series and “Mustang Series.” She had numerous awards and shows in Belgium, the DC area, and Peru. She’s always on the lookout for the unexpected, the surprise which makes her viewers wonder.

She works in series from places or events which moved her. Her art is in corporate and private collections worldwide. Through layering, scraping, automatic writing and re-working, she goes go to a place beyond her control. In the process she deliberately chooses shifting planes, clashing
colors, trying to break all the rules. She needs the chaos first then order. Her main objective is to direct the viewer through constant discovery in her paintings. Surprise, energy, and color are
the three main elements in her art. Over the years she’s accumulated a rich collection of symbols: Cheerful colors, games, toys, and fantastic creature inspired by her Noah are still present. Since she moved to New Mexico, and stayed in the desert, her pallet has become warmer.
