Georgia Eider worked as a self-employed textile designer for 25 years before she returned to making pictures. Georgia is inspired by her own approach to life, her boundless energy, her cheerfulness, purity of spirit and a limitless willingness to forgive and love. She was born and raised in Vancouver, one of four sisters, the daughter of European immigrants. Georgia spent her childhood painting and drawing. She attended the University of B.C. and the Emily Carr College of Art and Design after which she began hand painting and designing garments which translated into a career as a designer creating artful and unique clothing and supplying retail stores in the United States and Canada. Today, the artist returns to her childhood love of painting, and she chooses subjects that inspire and delight and that are often light and charming but can be also serious and sublime. In her artwork, she paints on canvas with acrylic paint and uses dyes to create surface designs on fabric as well.
Her recent creations include making sculpture with polymer clay and working in clay. When asked what her biggest advice for uprising and aspiring artists is, she said "Be prepared to do the work." Her work process is one of teasing and searching out of the application of mark making and paint, a statement about life that feels right and truthful. Georgia doesn’t really have any things or rituals that get her into the creative zone. She finds that just stepping into a studio starts the process, it might not come easily, and sometimes it takes a long time to get into the creative zone.
