F.W. Frohawk Wall Art

F.W. Frohawk (Born 1861) was a zoological artist and lepidopterist from England. He was the author of Varieties of British Butterflies, The Complete Book of British Butterflies and Natural History of British Butterflies. He was born in Norfolk, and his interest in natural history and drawing was nurtured by his mother. At the age of 7, he spotted and caught a butterfly, a rare species that’s pale clouded yellow color. This is what ignited his passion for butterflies. The family moved to Great Yarmouth where they stayed for some years and later they moved to Ipswich where he found many attention-grabbing butterflies. His father died around 1873 and the family decided to move to Croydon and later to South Norwood.

Frohawk joined Norwood College and unfortunately during this time he went down with typhoid that led to near blindness in one eye. Again the family moved to Upper Norwood in 1880 where he concentrated on illustration. Here, he obtained his first commission for illustrating “The Field.” As a full time artist, he took his time on one piece to ensure that the clients got the best. His art was and is still sold through many outlets all over the world in physical stores and also in online stores. He was powered by his own highly personal vision and he used to encourage people who view his work to consider his process of decision-making. He moved up the artistic ladder so fast and earned rapid success after spending many hours in his studio.
