Vero Shaw Wall Art

Vero Shaw loved animals, especially the dogs from her childhood. He also loved art and from that young age he could be seen drawing, painting and sketching images of dogs. He wanted to be a professional artist and that’s what he became after several years of hard work. Once he started working professionally, he began to receive commissions and freelance work from those who loved his art. He produced wonderful portraits of dogs for the famous 'Book of The Dog", set against the British countryside. The book was published in the late 1800s by Cassell in London. His illustrations are some of the finest pictures of dogs. He was much sought after and his art spread throughout the world. Today, they can be seen in homes of celebs and prominent people. They are also in museums, galleries, institutions and in private and public collections.

Shaw’s work included the first color illustrations of many breeds, such as the Retriever, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Bedlington Terrier, Basset Hounds, Dandie Dinmont Terrier, Dachshund, Irish Terrier, Irish Water Spaniel, Yorkshire Terrier, Italian Greyhound, Pug, and Fox Terrier. He became very famous and had a wide base of clients that he served diligently. He was much appreciated for his keenness to detail that made his dog portraits look very real. In fact, individual furs can be seen on the portraits. The last part of the 19th century was the time when magnificent chromolithographs were being produced in England and Shaw’s images are excellent examples of the process.
