Richard Lane Wall Art

Richard Lane began developing an interest in history and Marine Art at a very young age and spent most of his summers at Natucker, Massachusetts, and Cod Cod. He holds a bachelors degree in Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. After graduation, h worked for 10 years at a decorative design studio in New York City specializing in decorative oil paintings, wall paper design, and murals. In 1995, Lane left his career in the decorative arts to devote full time to painting his favorite subjects. Lane believes there’s so much beauty around us if we could only stop and look. His keen interest in American nautical history has been his main source of inspiration to continue working as a fine artist.

Lane is keen to detail and will always pick what many people can easily ignore. He believes that by appreciating the little things around him he can learn a lot from people and also from nature. It is the graceful fishing schooners of Boston and Gloucester as well as the powerful yet romantic yachts of past America’s Cup races that he captures affectionately on canvas. Lane does extensive research for his paintings, using old photographs from museum archives, museum ship models and actual blue prints of the boats themselves. He loves creating art that can inspire and is not just meant for hanging on the wall. He uses his art to invoke a feeling in his viewers. He is a member of the “Ship Model Society of New Jersey,” and also teaches acrylic painting classes.
