Xaras Wall Art

Xaras has had a passion for art from early childhood. He initially received instructions from his father, but he later attended the Philadelphia College of Art, from where he received a bachelor's degree in 1967. Five years later, following his military service, he earned an MFA in painting at Tyler School of Art. The artist has over 3 decades of teaching experience as professor and Chair of Fine Arts at Ursinus College. He has taught art history, drawing, painting, and printmaking from 1973 until 2007 when he retired. Since his retirement, he has presented art history lectures at PAFA, and has taught a variety of studio courses, including portrait painting. Xaras has done numerous private and public commissions. His works include covers for magazines including the Time magazine.

He has also done two historical paintings for Merck & Co., and portraits for Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Ursinus College, the Beasley Law Firm, the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas, and the US District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Currently, Xaras teaches Methods of the Masters, and Figure Painting, and Portrait painting in Pastels in the Continuing Education program. He’s is a member of the Portrait Society of America and lives with his wife, Judy in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania – his wife is also an artist. Xaras paints trains. He also likes to paint portraits of U.S. presidents. Xaras is a man of immense artistic talent and loves nothing more but to share it with his students. His passion for art and teaching is made evident in all his classes and conversations.
