Claire Kahn Wall Art

Artist Claire Kahn is a recipient of the distinguished Humanities Award. She studied design at Stanford University from where she graduated in 1977. From 1977 to 1984, she worked for the architectural firms Merrill, Owings and Skidmore, providing interior and exterior treatments and graphic design for projects including Miami’s Southeast Financial Center and Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco. Claire has worked with the fountain design firm, WET since 1985. She currently serves as Executive Designer. While working with WET, she designed fountains at sites worldwide including the New York’s Columbus Circle, Barcelona World Trade Center, The Fountains of Bellagio in Las Vegas and Beijing Finance Street. Claire’s project works include residential and commercial installations for which the uses of color and pattern are her focus. She maintains a studio practice using mixed media. Since 2004 she has made works in bead crochet – using glass, stone, metal and fiber. Claire shows her work at Patina Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Through the design of bead crochet, water, textile design, and graphic treatments, she’s interested in the uses of pattern and color that result from many, contrasting elements that come together creating a harmonious larger whole. In her art, graphic treatments, paper-cuts and painting create progression and pattern through the uses of transparency, color and light. Some of her work is kinetic. In bead crochet, patterns progress along a beaded rope and are linear. In water, the patterns are developed through choreography and movement. Some of her clients include Michele Cohen, The Asian Art Museum, San Francisco, The City of Beverly Hills, Ms. Evelyn Ashford, William and Barbara Callaway, and Mark and Lisa Brandin, just to name but a few.
