Flemish Baroque Art

Not too often military conquest acts as a catalyst for art to flourish, but the Spanish conquest of the Southern Netherlands is such a rare example. During Spanish control, the Flemish Baroque Art emerged and flourished, with some of the most beautiful paintings and sculptures seeing the light of day. The movement lasted for a full century and over the span, artists such as Rubens, van Dyck and Jordaens got together in Antwerp to deliver remarkable Flemish Baroque paintings.

Perhaps this is the biggest merit of true art, that it stays beautiful many years after it was created and regardless of technological and cultural changes.
