Vineyard Signs

Vineyard sign art is a classic art category that began when frescoes and murals of various vineyards were commissioned by wealthy clients. In modern times, this form of wine fine art still demonstrates the classic appeal and sophisticated treatment of this subject matter. As such, these works are ideal for decorating the home or office, particularly if a theme of understated wealth or sensible finery is desired. Many artists choose to emulate the styles of the original vineyard frescoes. These works are generally framed in some way and done in bright eye-catching colors, as seen in the sensitive painting 'Chateau Valentino' by Susan Winget. These works make up some of the most popular forms of wine fine art, particularly in households, where the bright colors and whimsical treatments of these works can be shown to the best advantage.

Like many examples of sign prints that were developed after the 1950's, there are many pieces of vineyard sign art that have a vintage feel to it. Works like 'French Wine Labels' by Daphne Brissonnet and 'Valley Vineyard II' by Kim Lewis are typical of framed vintage vineyard art. Additionally, many vintage vineyard paintings don't focus on the vineyard itself, but on the wine that's produced there. Works such as 'Chateau Cabernet' by Paul Brent address the vineyard as a graphic symbol, rather than the main subject.

Whether it's the wine or the vineyard, however, vineyard sign art has a long and rich history that, like the wine it depicts, only gets better with age.
